Functional Street Art of the Day: NYC The Blog is reporting that someone has been busy helpfully tagging up various subway stations with compass roses to help patrons reclaim their orientation upon arrival. Sightings have been reported all across town, and a Facebook page has been set up to track this highly-welcome stencil’s permeation.

When I first saw these sybols I didn’t pay much attention to them, thinking they were just sprayed on by the MTA to pinpoint where they were going to do some construction, drilling, etc.
But then I started seeing them at different subway entrances and in differant colors, and upon closer inspection, noticed it was a compass.
It dawns on me that this actually is very helpful when exiting a subway yet no one, til now, has thought of it. Kudos to you Mr. Mysterious-Street-Artist for helping the poor lost souls of NY.
